Will We Ever Learn

Hi Everyone

Is there still a war going on in Ukraine? Is there still a conflict going on in Gaza? I mention this as all the news this week is about Israel, Hezbulha and Iran. Now I don't begin to know all the history of the Middle East except that Iran, Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza think that Israel should be eliminated. What I do think I know is that no one can win. Will Israel eliminate Hamas in Gaza? No. Will Israel eliminate Hezbollah in Lebanon? No. Will Hezbollah or Hamas eliminate Israel? No. Will Israel destroy Iran? No and finally will Iran destroy Israel? No. Will these conflicts breed a new generation of fanatics and terrorists? Definitely. All this has caused millions to be displaced from their homes, cost the lives of thousands of innocent people and destroyed infrastructure and buildings in four countries. In Ukraine where it is most important that they keep their independence, ultimately there will have to be some sort of settlement. Obviously, it is easy to say "get around the table and talk" but that is what all parties will have to do in the end in the Middle East and what all those sitting around the table have to understand is that 95% of their citizens just want to live in peace even though they might not like their neighbours.

When it comes to food, I am very easy to please and I am willing to try almost anything. Chicken, beef, pork, lamb, ostrich, pheasant and fish in whatever form are no problem, but this week I discovered something that I would never eat. Our children and grandchildren have only had one pet, that friendly, adorable, cute little furry animal - guinea pigs. This week I was horrified to discover that guinea pigs are fattened and eaten in homes and restaurants in Peru. If ever there was a case to take to the United Nations Assembly, that it is. Recently we went to a restaurant that boasted that they could cook whatever we wanted. We asked for elephant's trunk on toast but we were disappointed when the waiter informed us that they had no bread left. Sorry, but I could not resist that last bit of Rubbish.

Our daughter and her family live just seven miles from our home in what we would regard as a small sleepy and friendly market town where little has changed over recent years and where life goes on as normal. That perception was shattered this week when I read that ten people had been arrested in raids on nine houses in the town by police investigating alleged human trafficking and drug offences. It was reported that £30,000 in drugs together with cash and weapons were taken from the properties searched. We live in a quiet lane surrounded by lovely neighbours but who knows what is going on around us.

Just a Thought:

The trouble with our times is that the future is not what it used to be.

What do you do when your bicycle squeaks? Take the guinea pig out of the basket.

Well, it could be worse, it could be Stoke.
