Who Advises the Advisors

Hi Everyone

At some point along the way, most of us have sought advice. Usually, it is from a Solicitor about making a will or power of attorney or even about the neighbours from hell, or a financial advisor on how to best invest our savings, assuming you have any of course. I was reminded of all this Rubbish when I read that the chief advisor to our Prime Minister is being paid more than he is, although that does not include the growing number of freebies he appears to be receiving. In addition, he, like those of us approaching middle age, has a free bus pass as well as free travel on aircraft, boats, trains and any other form of transport including hopefully the possibility of a rocket into space. Now my experience with advisors has been good although how good that advice was can only be really tested by going to another advisor. Now generally any advice I receive and act on only impacts me, the Main Contractor and our family while the advice given to our Prime Minister potentially impacts over 70 million people. As an official most of us rarely see, and who have spent most of their working life in a office in central London I think that it is relevant to ask who advises the advisors?. I know that many of you will know more than I do so any advice would be greatly appreciated as long as you tell me where you got your advice from.

This part of my Rubbish is aimed at my younger readers assuming I have any of course. Having said that, most of my readers are younger than me anyway. I just thought that they might benefit from my experience. When I was young, the Senior Partner gave me 'advice' every day, in fact, several times a day. She did not understand the word advice however as she delivered instructions and warnings like "don't argue with me", "I know better than you", "what I say goes" and that classic from our childhood "children should be seen and not heard". No doubt many of my older readers will have memories of those words. Now if I had listened to her 'advice' I would probably have been a bank manager or something similar, would have had a better class of friends and would not have spent the last nearly 65 years married to the Main Contractor. What she did give me was a good work ethic but sadly for her, I did not take any of her advice. I am not saying that you should all follow my path but, happily, it worked for me.

Hopefully, this is the last word on Arthur and the Avanti train tickets. You already know that I secured a refund for the extra ticket that we did not need to buy. That was now two weeks ago when Arthur gave us that good news. What he also said was that the refund would be posted to us in the form of a cheque - no doubt with a second class stamp - within 28 days. Now I might be approaching middle age but I thought that I was living in the digital age when the money could be transferred to our bank account within minutes. To date, there is no sign of the cheque but I cannot wait to see what happens when I book my next Avanti train ticket with a hand written letter sent with a second class stamp with a promise to pay for the ticket in 28 days after we have made the journey.

Just a thought :

There are two types of people, radiators and drainers. Surround yourself with radiators.

My friend got to the final of a model railway competition. He lost on points.

If you have a headache after reading this Rubbish, stub your toe. You will soon forget you have a headache.
