Hi Everyone
What an exciting week we have had. That nice man who spends all our money stood in parliament for nearly an hour with that confident smile to assure us that things will get better. He didn't say when it would get better of course but. like you, I was completely convinced. Then the next morning he was on our TV news admitting that we are paying more tax than since the 1940s and that our living standards will drop this year. A couple of hours later, however, we got our letters from that nice man telling us that our pensions are rising so at least all is well for those of us approaching middle age. He also gave us the great news that the energy cap will not be rising as previously planned in April but he did not mention that the financial help we have been getting during the winter will be stopped so that's the pension rise gone. Ah well, it was good news for at least an hour. Young mums were celebrating with the news that they will have help with the cost of child care so that they can return to work until the small print told them that nothing will start until next April and the whole plan will not be fully implemented until 2026. By then this government will probably be toast with another nice person spending our money in a different way. Then some nice young mum said what help would be given to mums who wish to stay at home to raise their young family. What a silly idea, we don't want parents being responsible for their own children like they did when we were young. Just look how we all turned out, hard working, self disciplined, responsible law abiding citizens. No, we cannot have any of that nonsense.
Went to our local market this week where I have bought our cheese and eggs for many years. For only the second time ever, they had no eggs. it reminded me that the Junior Partner also got his eggs from a market stall. He was instructed to go by the Senior Partner late on Saturday afternoon which involved a four mile walk there and back in all weathers. It had to be late on Saturday as the egg man sold any cracked eggs that he had at half price. That was definitely no yoke.
I think that my first encounter with music was when I was about thirteen with attitude when my school class was taken to a concert by a symphony orchestra. I was bored and underwhelmed, to say the least. Then sometime later our music teacher played for us and I remember sitting close to the piano watching him play. The music again did not inspire me but the sound and sight of his hands on the keys took me into another world. The piano has taken me into another world since that day. I did try to learn to play a few years ago when I retired. I found it difficult but it made me even more appreciative of anyone who can play the piano well. My perfect party would be to have a piano in the corner of the room that someone could play. The room would just be full of just me and the piano. Unfortunately, we did not have a piano at home as a child so I never had the opportunity to learn. Probably my one great regret.
Just a Thought :
Budget: An orderly system of living beyond your means.
My friend figured out how to play the piano by ear. After a while, he realised that it was easier to use his fingers.
