The Joys of Singing in Middle Age

brianmate

Hi Everyone

This week the word "decay" came to my attention. Firstly, the government will spend millions of pounds encouraging and teaching children in school to clean their teeth, as there is an alarming amount of decay in their teeth in very young children. I know many will say that it is the responsibility of the parents rather than schools but it seems to me that it is what they eat that makes the battle so hard. The government say that the benefits from their policy will show an improvement within two years. I hope that they are right. In many towns and cities, new retail developments have been built to the detriment of the older parts that were once full of independent small shops like the Fruit, Vegetable .........shop. In many cases, these buildings have been empty for many years. If you then add in our local towns the now closed and derelict pottery factories, the signs of decay are everywhere. What I find hard to understand is that all these buildings are owned by somebody, who must surely want a financial return on the property. The evidence, however, shows that the number of empty buildings continues to grow and the state of the buildings continues to decline with little or no evidence that the problem is being addressed. To make any meaningful impact to reverse this decay will need billions, not millions of investment to arrest the decline. Sadly, I cannot see a light at the end of that particular tunnel as it will take more than toothpaste and a brush to solve that one.

This week I read about a 92 year old who is a TikTok ( whatever that is) sensation. In my book that definitely puts him into the middle age bracket. All he does is sit in his study singing modern pop songs that have completely passed me by and the result is that he has thousands and thousands of followers across the world waiting for his next post. Now that is no good to me as I cannot sing, I don't know any modern pop songs and my TikTok is on a shelf in the corner of our living room. The reason I was attracted to this story is that, by comparison, I am producing this Rubbish every week, giving you the best advice on world problems, the impact the Junior Partner had on the world and any other silly stories to entertain you. The result is that apart from Trump and Joe who no doubt find my Rubbish addictive, and despite the fact that I publish on Facebook and LinkedIn, my very important messages are only reaching a few discerning readers. In addition, I am only just approaching middle age so, while I applaud my singing senation friend, I either need the help of an advertising mogul or singing lessons.

As well as all the talk of peace in Ukraine, and don't forget it is only talk at this moment, it has been reported that almost twenty thousand children have been abducted from Ukraine to Russia while no doubt being brainwashed into believing that their parents either don't want them or that they are dead. Apparently some have been rescued by a task force, but apparently that man Musk has withdrawn funding from tracing and rescuing some of these children . Surely, the abduction of those children is a war crime by Russia, but not continuing to pursue their rescue is not far behind.

Just a Thought:

A good listener is a good talker with a sore throat.

Did you hear about the karaoke singer who sang in tune? Neither did I.

My friend's dentist had a previous occupation. He was a drill sergeant.
