Red Wine, Dark Chocolate and................

Hi Everyone

A couple of weeks ago I went into our local budget supermarket to buy a bottle of whisky as a present for a friend, something that I have done before. When I picked the box off the shelf it was obvious that there was no bottle inside the box so I tried the next box with the same result. Fortunately, a nearby shop employee spotted my confusion and said that I needed to take my empty box to the checkout to have the bottle added with the explanation that they had been forced to change their policy due to theft. This week I read that another supermarket had resorted to putting empty coffee jars on the shelves in a bid to dissuade shoplifters after the price of a 200g jar had risen to a ridiculous £10. When I bought my whisky, the man at the checkout had to leave his till to walk twenty yards to a secure room to get my bottle, holding up me and the shoppers behind me for over a minute. Now can you imagine the chaos if this trend continues where you will be collecting a load of empty boxes, packets, and tins or a fake lettuce in a plastic bag. Don't ask me why a lettuce and many other items have to be in a plastic bag in the first place but that is now the 'norm' as they say. Just think, your normal 30 minute shop could take hours by the end of this year but at least your empty Christmas box of chocolates could be a diet winner thanks to the 5% who ruin the lives of the other 95%. By the time we get to empty tins of baked beans, we are all in trouble.

This week the front page headline in what is reputed to be a responsible newspaper rather than one of those tabloid sensation seeking papers read "AI creators fear the extinction of humanity". Now as you know when it comes to artificial intelligence I am pretty much in the dark as I suspect are 98% of the world's population, never mind just the population in this country. It is no consolation if only 2% know about AI and how it works especially if Boris, Vladimir, Donald, and that funny little man from North Korea have got a handle on it. It was at this point that I realised that, yet again, I have made a really bad decision as I struggle through life as it was only a few days before that I had paid for my season ticket for next season's football made even worse by the fact that I had also paid for my car parking ticket for the season. I just have to hope that if I arrive at this place called Extinction anytime soon that I will be able to claim a refund. On reflection, perhaps it would be a sensible thing to claim a refund anyway rather than subject myself to another year's torture and disappointment.

As you can imagine I am always interested when researchers advise something that stops or at least slows down memory loss. Apparently, if your diet does not include many grapes, berries, dark chocolate, red wine, spinach, broccoli and almonds you are more likely to suffer significant memory loss as you age. Now as I already eat all of these items, I thought great now I can indulge in more red wine and dark chocolate to keep the old memory going much longer. The researchers however said that if you already eat plenty of these items, eating more of them will have no benefit. Now that was a real relief as I could not remember where Dot had hidden the red wine and dark chocolate.

Just a Thought :

I am not saying that the staff in my local supermarket are dim, but when I asked if they could open Till 2, the Manager replied "We are already open till 10 most nights".

Life for some is like a bar of dark chocolate. Mostly disappointing.
