Hi Everyone
I thought it could not get any worse than when Boris came to power and promised "to make Britain great again" but within two minutes of Liz Trustworthy becoming our latest Prime Minister it did, when she told her adoring fans "that she was honoured to be the leader of the greatest political party on earth". Of course, she is biased but what a ridiculous statement to make. If that is the best she has to offer, at least it will provide me with some good Rubbish for months to come. As she has been compared to Margaret Thatcher and has changed her opinions on many occasions in her determination to get to the top, the French offered a great one liner when they described her as "the iron weathercock". In addition, the Russians reported that Liz was going to see the Queen assuming she recognizes her. At the risk of being charged with treason was it really necessary for Boris and his wife to fly in a private jet to the North of Scotland to tell the Queen he had been sacked before Liz followed in another private jet about two hours later to be given permission to replace him. As the prevailing wind this week has been from south to north, I would have been tempted to send them there together in a hot air balloon with Rushi Sunak lighting the flame.
It started in 1953 when I sat as a teenager in front of our 12" black and white television in the living room of the Fruit, Vegetable.......... shop watching the coronation. I was home alone as the Senior and Junior partners were in Regent Street in London watching the Coronation procession pass by. Although I was home alone our Living room was full of neighbours who did not have a TV. It ended over 70 years later as Dot and I sat at home waiting for the inevitable news that our Queen had died. Whether you are a monarchist or not, I hope that everyone will agree that she did a remarkable job with a degree of dedication that few will ever achieve. Like many others, I have only once been even close to the Queen as she passed in her car as we lined the pavement and that happened when she was still Princess Elizabeth rather than Queen Elizabeth 11. When her father King George V1 died there was only one BBC television channel and the screens went blank with a background of mournful music for what seemed a long time. How times have changed, now we have many TV channels with many of them remembering and celebrating the long life of our Queen. Those of you who have suffered this Rubbish for the last three years will know that I have commented on life with Boris many times but I thought that his tribute to the Queen in the House of Parliament was truly memorable closely followed by a lovely tribute from another past Prime Minister Teresa May and by Kerr Starmer. There will, of course, be changes as we move into a new era but hopefully many of the traditions will remain and I hope that the majority of our population will support and respect our new King.
I think that all I can say now is - Follow that Charlie and good luck. God save the King.
Just a thought:
I didn't get the joke about the hot air balloon. I think it went over my head.
If you are born into poverty, it's not your fault. If you stay there, it is your fault.
