A Million Things I Learned Last Year

Hi Everyone

I thought that it might be a good idea to look back at 2024 to see what pearls of wisdom I have learned this year especially as some of it might also apply to you. Well the first thing is that I have managed to churn out this Rubbish for the whole year without missing a single week. Whether you read them every week is another matter but hopefully, my one reader in China and the one in Russia is still with me. We have always loved our independent travel journeys since our children were young to the later years when we travelled either on our own or with our friends to Europe and North America. Last year, as we are now approaching middle age, we decided it was perhaps time to concentrate our travel ambitions on the many lovely parts of the UK. We also discovered that by not taking our car we could save a fortune in parking fees, and as a driver, enjoy the scenery on the upper deck of a bus with our free bus pass. As for seeing the world or reliving our travel memories all we have to do is bring the world into our living room through a quick search on UTube. Last year, although our world is getting smaller, we have found many new projects, friends and good neighbours right on our doorstep. We also have some longtime friends across who we rarely, if ever see, but they are there and the magic of Christmas brings us together for at least a brief but valuable moment. Moving forward, if a little more slowly, we aim to do as much this year as we did last year, with the help of a sensible diet, mobility, and the tablets that I am going to take as soon as I have finished this Rubbish.

One thing that I am sure we all have learned this year was something that we already knew, that most of the world's bad rulers and dictators come to a sticky end. The latest one to be toppled was Assad in Syria. History tells us that this is the most normal end for these odious men like Hitler, Pol Pot, Idi Armin, Sadam Hussian and many others. The only men who obviously don't seem to realise that they are facing a similar fate are the present crew, Putin, that funny little man in North Korea, and Mr China. Even worse as far as they are concerned, is that they are likely to be condemned by history with many of the edifices they built of themselves destroyed. Let us hope that at least another one bites the dust this year.

Just another thing that I have noticed is that many TV programmes this Christmas have been taken over by 'celebrities'. The problem is I have never seen or heard of most of them and I do not care that I have never seen or heard of them. Ok, I know that I have not moved on from Doris Day, Perry Como or even Paddington Bear but from what I have seen of many of them, most of them could not even compete with Paddington Bear. One of these so called celebrities was stopped in his Rolls Royce in a London street last year when he was spotted using his phone while driving. He is a Rapper, you know one of those so called singers whose words are completely unintelligible and probably even more rubbish than this Rubbish. The fact that he was driving a Rolls Royce means that he does not care about my opinion anyway. I just wondered whether the person he was phoning understood a word of their conversation.

Just a Thought:

What do you call Russia's dictator when he is annoyed? Put-out.

My friend's dad never lost a case in the whole of his career. He was a Manchester Airport baggage handler.
