Hi Everyone
It seems a very long time ago that I waited for my A level examination results and how it would change my life. I had the chance to go to university at a time when many fewer students achieved that goal but I declined the chance probably so that I could upset the Senior Partner. Since then, however, I have always felt that if you really want something, you can get it providing it is within the law of course. I was reminded of that this week when many young students received their A level examination results, the point at which they move on to university, an apprenticeship, or the world of work depending on their results and aspirations. Many of those with good results will go on to university to experience higher education and the joys and trials of living away from home for the first time. This year is the first post Covid year when the examinations and marking have returned to something like normal but whether the students have fully recovered from the Covid years is another matter. Many students will have coped with the Covid lockdown because they had access to technology and the support of their parents. No doubt many others have struggled. I know that I had to work really hard to get my grades but we were all in the age of books, pen, and paper and I never even thought that everyone did not have the same opportunity that I had. Now the divide between the students with every support and opportunity and those who have to fight and struggle to achieve their dreams seems to get wider, just like many other areas of life. Hopefully there are many good teachers out there helping the disadvantaged to achieve their dreams.
Last week I told you how tech savvy I was but when I heard the word Bluetooth recently I thought that it was someone needing dental attention. This week however my son gave me his spare pair of ear pods replacing the bulky headphones with a cable plugged into my computer that I had used for years. Now I just put one pod in each ear, turn on my phone and listen to music all day while walking, running (sorry I don't do that anymore), mowing the lawn, painting, and my main job, wiping the dishes. Anyway, I discovered that I am not as savvy as I thought as apparently Bluetooth has been around for the last 25 years. Must remember to take them out when I have a shower or when receiving instructions from the Main Contractor.
Seventeen years ago a little girl came to stay with us for the day for the first time. She could not yet walk but I christened her Miss Fizz as she was never still. This week our granddaughter had a big week in that not only did get the grades she needed to get into her first choice university but she also passed her driving test. Those two things are the start of an independent future that, at some point, we have all embarked on. As with any family, we are always hoping for success and happiness as they progress through life and I think that for those of us approaching middle age, it means everything.
Just a Thought:
I thought of doing history at University but I couldn't see a future in it.
My Bluetooth ear pod wasn't working so I threw it in the river. Now it's syncing.
If we known how much fun grandchildren are, we would have had them first.
Brian
